The Mount Attains W!se Platinum Designation in Financial Literacy

Stephen Muratore, Chairperson of the Mathematics and Computer Science Departments, reported on December 6 that Mount Saint Mary Academy attained Platinum Star designation in the W!se (Working in Support of Education) Financial Literacy Program. The news was revealed during the 2024 MoneyPower Conference at FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) in New York City.

Accepting on behalf of the Mount were Mr. Muratore and Jacqueline Muratore, Assistant Directress for Faculty, Curriculum, and Planning. The designation was awarded by Eileen Marks DiFabio, Office of Student Pathways, NYC Public Schools, and Marsha Iverson, Personal Finance Consultant.

Mr. Muratore stated, “Financial Literacy is a critical skill that is especially important for young women. This course equips our students with the skills needed to make informed decisions about spending, saving, investing and borrowing. We want our students to be able to achieve their financial goals and secure a bright future for themselves.”

The W!se Financial Literacy Certification program, now in 49 states, supports personal finance instruction in high schools. Participating schools teach personal finance and administer W!se’s Financial Literacy Certification Test. Students passing the test become Certified Financially Literate™ (CFL), a nationally recognized credential. Through the program, more than one million students have graduated from high school financially literate.

W!se is a leading educational nonprofit based in New York City with a mission to improve the lives of young people and at-risk adults through programs that develop financial literacy and readiness for college and the workforce.
