Seniors and Their Families Gather for Baccalaureate Mass

On the eve of their graduation, members of the senior class and their parents gathered in Immaculate Conception Chapel for a Baccalaureate Mass which was led by Reverend Monsignor William Benwell. Reverend Monsignor Patrick Dubois also served as a celebrant. Senior Class President, Isabelle Fretz '24, offered welcome remarks.
During the Mass, a special reflection was offered by Sister Karen Schneider, RSM, MD. She said that the seniors have been infused with the critical concerns and Mercy Core Values during these four years on the mountain which have prepared them to go into the world as salt and light (a reference to the Gospel of Matthew 5: 13-16: Jesus tells His disciples, "You are the light of the world." As "salt", the Christian is to counteract the power of sin. As "light" we are to illuminate or make visible.)
"Remember the sanctity of the deep friendships yo have made as young women," she said. "You are unbelievably strong women. Look at what you have been through...look at what you have accomplished. Look out world, here they come! Amen."
White roses were presented at the statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph in memory of the deceased members of the community. The seniors sang a song to Sister Lisa D. Gambacorto, RSM, Ed.S., Directress, before the conclusion of the Liturgy. Sister Karen and Monsignor Benwell were also presented with special gifts. The senior class also sang a beautiful rendition of "Thankful" to Sister Lisa before the entire congregation joined in singing "Happy Birthday" to her as well.
