Catholic Schools Week Liturgy Held in Chapel

Michelle H. Daino
On Thursday morning, the Mount community united in faith during a special Catholic Schools Week Liturgy in Immaculate Conception Chapel led by Monsignor William Benwell. Prior to the Mass, members of the ASL (American Sign Language Club) taught students how to sign a portion of the gathering song, "I Say 'Yes,' My Lord."

During her Reflection, Mary Agugliaro '25 emphasized that we are all given gifts by the Holy Spirit to inspire and serve others. She said the teachers at the Mount guide the students with their wisdom and insight, and that Catherine McAuley has been a shining example of spirituality and service. Mary said we have been created to share our light with others; our Catholic identity and formation being a foundation that urges us to integrate Christ into all that we do.

During the Commissioning of Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Kelly Donnelly (Theology Teacher), Cecilia Del Santo (Latin Teacher), and Jennifer Morzano (School Counselor) were recognized and blessed by Monsignor Benwell.

Prior to the conclusion of the Liturgy, members of the community recited the Pledge for Non-Violence, and Sister Lisa Gambacorto, RSM, Ed.S., Directress, was presented with a special gift in recognition of her 45 years of vocational service as a Sister of Mercy. The winners of awards presented by the Diocese of Metuchen this past weekend were also revealed. (See related story below)

Other Catholic Schools Week activities included: (Monday) Students received Mount bracelets, (Tuesday) Student Talent Show, (Wednesday) Mounties added red, white, and blue to their uniforms and received firecracker ice pops.  An ice cream social with Administration and the Sisters of Mercy, (Thursday) Presentation of Greeting Card to Sisters of Mercy, and (Friday) Faculty/Student Basketball Game and Winter Pep Rally. Throughout the week, the Find the Lion game, Penny Wars, and Quiz Bowl were also held. All photos are shared on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

We are so blessed to be a part of a Catholic, Mercy education!
