Sister Deirdre Mullan, RSM Shares Compelling Mercy Girl Effect Presentation

Every 10 minutes, somewhere in our world, an adolescent girl dies as a result of violence. There are young women being denied the right to an education, forced to marry as young as 8 years of age, discarded and deemed less than their male counterparts. According to Sister Deirdre Mullan, RSM the Mercy Girl Effect can make effective change to turn this plight around.

During her visit to Mount Saint Mary on the morning of October 8, Sister Deirdre shared that there is a temptation to say “this is not our problem, but as a Mercy girl – as Mercy women – we are more than citizens of where we live. We are, in fact, global citizens and what happens to one happens to all.”

During her PowerPoint presentation, Sister Deirdre shared various examples of why it is important for us, as a community rooted in the Mercy Core Values, to INSIST on making positive changes against the aforementioned treatment of young women instead of opting to RESIST. “We are our best selves,” she said, “when we serve others.”
